Day 22. Big Time Blogging Challenge.
Share a story from my college years.
Well, let's see if I can remember a story from that long ago. It has been 20 years!! Where did that time go? Wedding. Two children. Four jobs for me. One job for my husband. Two houses.
Back to a story...
A funny story--I was an RA my sophomore year. One activity that we had was a sleep over at our mod parent's house. We got bored with the movie, so we went back to the dorm, grabbed some toilet paper and TPed the boys dorm. I was the leader. I led my girls down this path. I felt very guilty about it. Now I feel better because I have confessed.
A scary story--as a junior I needed to drive 30 miles to another town to take some classes. My car was a bit old (and this was before car phones) and stranded me twice on the Interstate. Since I HAD to get to class, I accepted a ride from strangers on both occasions. They dropped me off at my class and I got a ride back with another person from my town. I do not recommend accepting a ride from strangers.
A sentimental story--I student taught in a first grade class. I loved those kids and pretended that I was the only teacher. On the last day, they made me a wonderful book (a shared reading and writing lesson with a BIG purpose). I cried a lot.
I may not remember all the details, but I do remember how I felt: guilty, scared and loved.
Oh my goodness--accepting a ride on the highway! I totally repressed the memory, but I did it too! Thanks for sharing your stories, Alyce, now I know what to write about :)

Love those books from kids - I always used to make my middle school kids write me an end of the year letter so I could make a boook for myself. Some of my most treasured items from teaching.
ReplyDeleteAlso - can't believe you took rides from strangers! So scary!! Glad you're okay and here to tell about it! :-)
So glad you were kept safe on the highway! I love that you wrote about how you felt. Awesome. And I have all the cards my kids in my student-teaching class made for me! I just took them to my new school so I'll have them to treasure!
ReplyDeleteCute post- I love that you shared 3 snippets of college.
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine how you would feel in one of your kids accepted a ride from a stranger! I shudder to even think about it! Glad you got home safely!!! I hope you feel better after your confession! ha You are doing a Big Time Blogging Challenge and I am doing a Big Time Commenting Challenge. :D I am trying to comment on every one of your posts this month! I'd be too scared to accept a ride from some stranger. You were a brave one back in the days, eh? You go, girl! ;) Thanks for sharing 3 little stories... ;)
ReplyDeleteTimes sure have changed! I bet you wouldn't have taken a ride now a days, but then again you would have a phone and could call someone! I remember my dad picking up hitch hikers when we were kids. That is just crazy to me now!

My sister went to school in Emporia, and her truck a as always dying on her trips home or back. She got rides with people all the time. I think my momma did a lot of praying!
